Bom día Belém | COP30

40 hours of travel later, we arrived on the ground in Belém today for a sweltering second week of COP30.

We headed straight into COP Blue Zone as soon as we arrived, and first on the list was connecting with colleagues from the Indigenous Peoples’ Caucus and informal Disability Caucus to coordinate ahead of our side event tomorrow (come join us at 10:45am at the Culture + Entertainment Pavilion). We then participated in the daily meeting for the Informal Disability Caucus before catching New Zealand Minister for Climate Change, Simon Watts; National Iwi Chairs Forum Pou Take Āhuarangi, Marama Royal; SPREP’s Tagaloa Cooper and colleagues speak at the Moana Blue Pavilion. Some excellent insights on Indigenous Knowledge as climate adaptation; investment in Indigenous Peoples and especially the Pacific; and lessons learned from the Adaptation Futures 2025 Conference, which I joined just a few weeks ago in Christchurch.

Somehow this managed to total almost 7 hours without even trying - but managing to stay awake this long amidst the jetlag is todaty’s main accomplishment.
