Newsroom: A dose of disappointment for the Pacific

“After 40 hours of over-priced, uncomfortable, and hectic travel, we arrive at the equally over-priced, uncomfortable, and hectic COP30 in the beautiful Belém, Brazil. As a longtime COP goer, I’ve learned to come prepared – both physically, ensuring a plentiful stock of blister band-aids & protein bars for the 16-hour days; and mentally, with the acceptance that every COP disappoints somebody, and a good COP disappoints everyone equally (or so the saying goes).

There’s a lot to report from week 2 of the United Nations climate conference, but one decision today has got the whole venue murmuring. For our part, many Pacific attendees got our dose of disappointment when the stalemate over hosting COP31 was finally broken…”
